Rain: Dogs Love The Rain

dog Limerick header image

I wrote a limerick, “Three Dogs Running,” to honor this week’s weather!

Three dogs ran through the rain with great glee,
Their tails wagging wildly, you see.
With tails wagging high,
They dashed 'neath the sky,
In a soggy, delightful spree!
Three dogs running in the rain.

Do All Dogs Like Rain?

Not all dogs necessarily like the rain, but there are some reasons why certain dogs might enjoy it:

  1. Cooling effect: Dogs may enjoy the cooler temperatures and the sensation of rain on their fur, especially if they have a thick coat or are in hot climates.
  2. Playfulness: Rain can create new smells, sights, and sounds, stimulating a dog’s curiosity and desire to explore or play.
  3. Natural Instincts: Dogs are descendants of wolves, and wolves are known to be adept at hunting and surviving in various weather conditions, including rain. Some dogs may have retained an instinctual comfort in wet environments.
  4. Associations: If a dog has positive associations with rain, such as fun outdoor activities or being rewarded during rainy weather, they may develop a liking for it.
  5. Sensory Experience: Rain can enhance a dog’s sensory experience with new smells and textures. Some dogs may find this stimulating and enjoyable.

However, it’s essential to note that not all dogs enjoy rain. Some may be uncomfortable with the wetness, the sound of thunder, or the overall experience of getting wet. Every dog is an individual with its preferences and personality traits.

Thunder Storms Can Cause Stress

Dogs can hear four times stronger than we can, meaning the sound of thunder and pouring rain is much louder. This increase in noise can cause some dogs to become nervous and overwhelmed. If your dog pants, paces, barks, or hides, they are afraid and need comfort. One way to help is with CBD Dog treats from Joy Organics. Check them out here:|
